Bio
Kristen Phipps (United States, b. 1993 in Wichita, KS) lives in Des Plaines, IL. She received an MFA in painting from The Ohio State University in 2021, a BFA in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2016, and an AA from Cowley County Community College in 2014.
Phipps’ practice draws from compulsory urges. Her works often feature a combination of mediums including acrylic, markers, spray paint, and scavenged studio waste. Through objective process based abstractions she develops suggestive, overcrowded compositions using personal references to appropriate fragments of recognizable imagery.
Phipps has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Harvester Arts, Wichita, Kansas; The Alzheimer's Association, Wichita, Kansas. Group exhibitions at the Ermin B. White Gallery, El Dorado, Kansas; Madron Gallery, Chicago, Illinois; Parlor and Ramp, Chicago Illinois; Urban Arts Space, Columbus, Ohio; Mark Arts, Wichita, Kansas; among others.
Residencies include Greywood Arts, Killeagh, Ireland, Republic of Ireland; Harvester Arts, Wichita, Kansas; Alderworks, Dyea, Alaska; and Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, Vermont.
Her works are represented in international public and private collections.
